Ledger Recover FAQ

Ledger Recover is an optional subscription service that provides a backup solution for your Secret Recovery Phrase. It allows you to securely back up your seed phrase and recover access to your crypto assets if you lose your recovery phrase or hardware wallet.

You can learn more about Ledger Recover on our official website at ledger.com/recover. We also have detailed documentation in our Help Center and educational content on our Academy platform.

Ledger Recover provides peace of mind by offering a secure backup of your seed phrase. If you lose access to your physical backup or forget where you stored it, Ledger Recover allows you to regain access to your assets through a secure identity verification process.

Only you have access to your wallet. Ledger Recover uses a technology that splits your seed phrase into encrypted fragments, each stored by independent companies. No single entity, including Ledger, can access or reconstruct your seed phrase without your explicit authorization through identity verification.

No. Your private key never leaves your Ledger device. Ledger Recover creates an encrypted backup of your seed phrase using hardware-level encryption. The backup is split into fragments that are useless individually and stored separately by trusted providers.

Ledger Recover is completely optional and requires explicit user consent to activate. The functionality does not run unless you choose to subscribe and enable it. Building a separate OS would fragment our development resources and reduce security updates for all users.

The backup providers are established companies with business continuity plans. In the unlikely event a provider ceases operations, contingency measures are in place to transfer encrypted fragments to a replacement provider, ensuring your backup remains accessible.

We recommend keeping your physical recovery sheet as an additional backup. Store it securely in a safe location. Having multiple backup methods provides extra security and ensures you have options for recovering your assets.
